Just thought I'd mention this, as I was on the Linuxcnc site just a few minutes ago.

Indeed.
I've tried it in a virtual machine but there something unlinuxy happens...
Total freeze.
Now this is on my laptop where I want to open a simulator and have had similar problems in the past. But I think I'll keep of upgrading my production machine for a bit. Maybe wait for the new live cd with 12.04.

Yeah not good. This happens on my Mac with Linuxcnc running in a VM.
Now a simulator should work. I read someplace about how to set such up, but unfortunately don't have links handy.

I'm waiting for a new spin of Ubuntu with LinuxCNC installed. I have an old computer setup to install it on. I just want a fresh start.

You can't run a realtime OS in a virtual machine without problem.
LinuxCNC is a realtime-patched kernel.
Yeah, I know. I was trying it for the simulator. When opening the simulator in 2.5 in the virtual machine it would not start where I have no trouble starting the 2.4 version.
No biggie.
