    Bridgeport drive requirements

What is a bottom size for oz. in steppers on X and Y axis of a bridgeport series I. What is a good size, and what is a silly don't need it "that" big size? I'm looking to convert my manual to CNC.

I know servos are the way to go, but I will be going which ever way the breaks come to me. Good deal on servos, I go with them. Good deal with steppers of sufficient size, I go with them. The important thing to know though is what is the right size to be looking for. It looks like a converson with rolled ball screws might be done for around $2,500. Machines in my area seem to be hovering around $4,500.

    Thanks for all input.

On my manual series 1 conversion I have 916oz/in for X and Y and 240oz/in for Z. X and Y are 2:1 reduction and Z is 3:1. I think the series 1 CNC steppers were 600oz/in 1:1 and others (like one I am presently retrofitting) were 2.5:1 reduction. I am sure machintek will correct me if I am wrong
