Well I bought a couple of Light Machines (Spectralight) mills and a lathe at a local school surplus sale. They all worked and I ran a few programs on each machine , everything was going well then I moved one of the controller boxes, the next time I turned it on it quickly released all of the smoke and made some popping noises. I opened the "do not open, no servicable parts inside" box and found a loose... I should say free, screw bouncing around, I assume it shorted out something it shouldn't have.

There is physical damage to the three L298 chips so I'll first try replacing them.

My question is: my chips are L298KV, I have some L298N chips, Will there be problems if I use the L298N's?
