    Z load at 60% idle

    I haven't restarted my machine yet, but I thought I would ask here first.
    My machine isn't even running, but my Z load is at 60%. Any ideas?

    What machine?
    How old?
    Counter Balance? Weight or Nitrogen?
    Servo Brake?

    If you have a SS machine, then you do NOT have any counter balance. Rather you have a servo brake.

    60% is normal because the motor is holding the position.
    Rest easy and run it.

    I could almost promise, Ive never noticed it before.
    But one of our guys looked it up and he got the same answer.
    So i guess Ill just ignore it.

    Here is an experiment for you to try.

    With the spindle stopped and well clear of anything make a note of the Z position then push Estop. The Z axis may drop slightly when you do this with slightly being anything up to 0.2".

    Like Haastec says the machine has a servo brake but the brake is only ON when the servo power is OFF. Estop turns the servo power OFF but sometimes the brake does not come ON quickly enough to stop the head dropping slightly.

    if I remember correctly that year and up to 2009 10 had a option so the head doesnt move at all. when power is off or a power failure. I have that option and didnt know what it was until it was explained to me.

    my ss runs 38% or less I beleive in the "Z" I can double check tomorrow if need be

    Our VF-2ss is 64% at rest. Our VM-2 is at 35%
