    Looking For: Jointer Cutter Head

I am going to be building my own jointer/planer very soon but I can not find replacement cutter heads anywhere online.

I was originally going to just get a broken mastercraft 12" thickness planer or something but none have come up. I have found spiral cutter heads that use inserts but their $300+

So does anybody know where I can get a cheap 8-12" cutter head that uses strait knifes? Or possibly one of you guys have upgraded to the spiral and would be willing to sell your old one?

    Thanks!

I don't think anyone sells replacement cutterheads with straight knives. You can order one as a replacement part, but that would probably cost more than one with spiral knives.

When I saw the homebuilt jointer a few months ago at woodengears.ca, I though about building one myself. But, you can get an 8" Grizzly jointer so cheap ($750) it really doesn't make sense, unless you're on an extremely tight budget.

It would probably be easier and cheaper to find an old jointer on Craigslist and just restore it.

Actually, I just checked Ebay and found these.

Yea I found one decent cutter head for a good price but it was only 3" and the rest where rusty junk.

I might end up doing exactly what the guy from woodgears.ca did and wait for a busted thickness planer to pop on on kijiji or craigslist.

And I'm building one myself because $750 for a 8" jointer is out of my price range. I can build one like woodgears for under $300!

Search for shopsmith planer, you can often get the whole planer for $300 and they are very nice planers, dual motors. Ebay often has the planer head seperate as well.
