    gecko g540 and smoothstepper

I am in the process of upgrading my electronics to a G540 and smooth stepper. I plan on putting both in the same enclosure, but I can not figure out the best way to connect the smoothstepper (inside the box) to the G540 (outside the box). How are others doing this?

    Thanks

Cut some clearance under the G540 for a ribbon cable.

If you want to see what I mean google soigeneris and see the pics of his STDR_4C controller.

That is what I did too.

A back side db25 was requested a while back but Mariss said it cannot be done due to the design so it would require a separate board design and everything so it is not worth the trouble.

I am ready to start my control box build, but I have never done this before. I think I have everything down ok, but I would like a second opinion. Please keep it in simple terms as I am a bit of an idiot when it comes to these things.

I also have a couple of questions.
    1. Is a 4.5 volt wall wart enough to power the ess? It is what I currently have on hand.

    2. What about fans for cooling the box. I would rather not have another power supply. Suggestions?

Thanks everyone for the help, I would be total lost without this board.

    Two comments:

    1) Check your 4.5V wall-wart's open-circuit voltage. It may be considerably more than you expected if it's unregulated. You might want to replace it with a regulated 5V one.

    2) There is no need to ground the SmoothStepper back to your 48V power supply because all G540 inputs and outputs are optically isolated. Grounding it may introduce noise into your SmoothStepper and cause spurious behavior.

    Mariss,

Thanks for the reply, Would a keling KL-10-5 be a better choice for the power supply? I am planning on ordering a couple of other things from there soon anyway. But I can't seem to find if this is regulated or not.
