    RFQ: 100 pieces brass disks.

    Hi all,

I am in the need of a 100 pieces of brass cut to 4.1 mm thick discs, it also has 16 small holes that 14 of are tapped through 0-80 threads. The file attached shows the hole dimensions and location as well as the outer dimensions. The dimensions need to be pretty accurate especially the flatness.
I am in Chicago so if there is someone local even better!

    Thanks,
    Eric

Just to clarify all of dimensions are in mm except the tapped holes are 0-80.
Outer dimension is 34mm the larger holes in the drawing isn’t tapped and is 1.8mm in diameter. the smaller holes are 1.2mm or whatever the drill size for cutting 0-80 threads you’re comfortable with!!!

    Hello,

What are your tolerances, for diameters, thickness, and flatness?
What surface finish do you need?
What alloy of brass? 360 would be lowest machining cost.

    Thanks and regards.

    HI,
Overall tolerance would need to be .01 mm for diemeter and thickness, flatness is very important as well. So the thickness could be 4.1x thick as long as its all the same. Surface finish isnt important because I am doing another operation once I recieve them. And yes I prefer c360 brass!

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,

OK, but, +/-.01mm tolerance is in conflict with a 4.1x tolerance, which if I'm interpreting it correctly, means anything between 4.10 and 4.19mm, which is essentially +/-.05mm.

Now if the diameter has to be +/-.01mm, so be it, but want to make sure you're not asking for something that adds cost, that you don't necessarily need. To extend this to hole locations, if you need +/-.01mm on the hole locations, that will be a significant cost hit, if for no other reason than the metrology needed to verify that is costly.

Now FWIW, I would typically expect +/-.1mm on the diameter and hole locations, especially seeing as how these are mostly threaded holes. Again, you're the guy who says what it needs to be, but from a business aspect, +/-.01 is going to be a "lot" more costly than +/-.1mm.

    Just saying ...

    Mike
