Something like that would be a LOT faster by using 2D pocketing and profiling, which would reduce the time to minutes, instead of hours. However, the extremely small features would probably not stand up to the faster operations.

i started with bitmap instead of vectors. i first tried to create vectors out of bitmap but result was not good enough. second step was to use aspire function to convert bitmap to 3d component and with 3d component at lease aspire does not have much options with tool path.

is there any thing else i can do to improve the quality of carving?

thanks Gerry for sharing your experience with this newbie.

If the automated method doesn't give good enough results, than I'd create or edit the vectors manually. It takes longer, but you can get far superior results.

Gerry, followed your advise and you are absolutely right; even for a novice like me working with vectors is pretty trivial.

end mill marks are pretty obvious in the picuture, i was trying to see how quick machining can be done and kept overlap at 40%, hope changing the overlap/stepover stetting will take care of this issue, will find out soon. simply used one of the built in carving tool path in cam, no creativity on my part but i had to use three different cutters and getting better setting accurate z zero b/w tools.

will appreciate if somebody can give me few pointer on how to get better polishing on wood. i want to get glass like shiny finish and want this shine to persist as long as possible. hope this does not need special type of wood. i am familiar with stains, per-stains and mineral spirit. i think on my work bench i used polyethylene (hope this is the right terminology) which gave gloss and save wood from scratches. i also experimented with wax like and liquid polish without much success. long time ago in one of tv program i watched galss finishing done on a project and if my memory is correct it was not a big deal. i think i just need right type of polish and learn correct technique. i need minimum help to get going here. thanks in advance.

    cheers

You might also want to play with the "Fit Curves to Selected Vectors" tool. It will replace the automatically traced vectors with Bezier curves, for a much smoother look, and easy editing.

i thought this was late Christmas gift from adobe but i was wrong. i find out today that this is not a give away. i can blame vendor for putting the files and serial key on the web but this will not change the fact that sw is not free.
