Drawing on top of imported image unacceptably slow

I have an image (a logo) that I would like to engrave in a piece of material. When I import the image (a 13 KB BMP file), drawing on top of the image is impossibly slow. Any tips for importing an image as a drawing template?

I would save more time by taping tissue paper to my monitor.

if you can, scale down your image with another piece of software, that may help your speed.

I've got an i5 intel laptop that has a build in video card (shared memory) that doesn't have any slowness issues. However, it's not the laptop I build on.

I build on an older laptop (HP HDX18), dual core with a 2gb Nvida card non-shared memory. And it's damn near impossible to do what you are wanting to do.

So, other then getting a faster comp, try scaling the image down. It may help. Other then that, when you find a fix with out replacing computer hardware, please post the fix.

I use Alibra PE and tried drawing over a BMP file about the same size. There is a delay in drawing between points but it is very slight, not something that would keep me from using it if needed.

    My system:
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad-Core Processor 2612Mhz
Video : NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 1.00 GB
    Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080
    Total Memory: 4.00 GB

Video card is very old, may replace it to see if there is an overall improvement.

Thank you for the replies. I called Alibre to discuss system requirements and we determined my laptop is just below their recommend (video card) specs.

I decided to order the parts to build a machine that will surpass their recommendations.

What's funny with your statement is, back in the early days before v12, my laptop was in spec but had the same issue as you describe.

Be sure to OVER engineer your new build out.
