    Linear encoders

Hi everyone, i know thins might have been discussed before but i feel i'm not getting a clear answer.

I' ve found a supplier that can provide me linear encoders, magnetic tape type, square output signal.
    My question is:

Can i use them to provide some sort of error positioning corrections interfacing via pokeys, or would i just be able to see the error in the DRO's?

I'm actually building my machine, have a G540, and 380oz-in kit from Kelling.

    Thanks!

PS. is there any way to change the font Mach3 uses?

The best you can do is get Mach3 to pause or stop if a position error occurs. You'll need to write a macro or plugin to do this.

    Yes.
    Function Cfg's > Fonts
You can't change the size, or use bold or Italics. All you can change is the font itself.
Changes take effect after restarting Mach3.

Mmm well that's a pity, however, how do servo systems driven by mach3 work?

I'm sorry if asking silly questions but i'm not fully into electronics and just asking from people that may advise me.
    Thanks in advance!

Servo systems that are compatible with Mach3 need the servo drive to close the loop. The encoder signals are fed back to the drive, not Mach3.

Aha, there was were i got lost, i guess it's actually the servo driver that controls the input from the encoder, not the computer runing mach.

    So discusion over, thanks!

The servo loop is closed with in the servo drive, when using Mach

I thought it was the computer that performed this, that's why i asked if it was possible to feed a motor with the value read from the encoder.

Shame Anyway, thanks for getting this straight and saving me some money!

You are not wrong in what you are saying, lots of control systems,(Most major machine controls) the computer sees encoder feed back, But Mach control does not

To get closed loop with Mach you need to use the Galil Motion controller option.
In this case the loop is closed back to the card.
Or the Dynomotion USB controller. With Dynomotion you can use Mach as the front end HMI or Dynomotion's own.
