    Argon and Ion (New drives..!!)

    Hey Guys,

Have you seen the amazing nice drives on the granite devices website?
Very cool, a complete solution and a very small unit.
I`m wondering if the Ion can be used by the cnc modelbuilder for hobby.
Would it be possible to give in a step and direction?
Cann a noob wire this to a pc and set the drive up?

Would be cool i think (for my project..haha)

I'm looking forward to them also, can't wait

As for the Ion, whether it's suitable for a hobby build Tero would need to answer - I believe it's aimed at OEM's but not sure on that. I am pretty positive it will accept step/direction input though - the brochure has a screen shot of GDTool3 showing that as the selected input

How are your machine plans coming along?

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hey Jason,

Nice to hear of you, been busy the last year with a lot.
Hope the drives will be not only oem, for some hobby freaks they would be perfect i think. Ion is the ....

Machine is going great, last design is really build for purpose, nothing more, nothing less (thats why the Ion would be great..hahaha). This build cann be done almost without machining.

Luckely i finished study half a year ago, so working for a Naval engineering company for 4 months now, very cool and did some nice projects.
First project was a 900ton lifting beam, did al the calc. myself and went throw classification without a problem, totally the different end of engineering compared to cnc desktop machines... (900ton, 24meters long, 2 meter high..)

So money isn`t the biggest problem now, hope to finish the machine real fast now, first gave myself a nice workstation last month, now ordered a Elte AF60...

But uhhh, Tero, the Ion would be great for my machine...!!

Hey, is that a little turning spindle in the column?? VERY cool, I like it. Which model AF60 did you order? How much? You can email me the info if you like

I'm sure that one way or another you'll be able to get hold of a few Ion drives!

    Regards,

    Jason

Ps - that is one honking big crane...!

The spindle is from AF 60

Still have the NSK NR3060S unit, maybe i will use it for a live tool on one of the lathe tool decks..

Ion will be a great choice for hobby purposes. It has step/dir and many other control modes and it can be plugged on multiaxis motherboard to make very compact system. However, don't hold your breath, it will take time to develop (but not nearly as long as Argon development has taken).

    Xerxes,
Do you have any price yet for the new driver? Is it DIY level? Thanks.

Argon production & component cost is more than 2x compared to VSD-E, so sales price will follow that trend.

Ion pricing is to be determined, but the goal is less than VSD-E's cost.

Argon is in gd cnc products list, but I did not see product's installation guide or info or the like on website. When will be available? Anybody already use this Argon? Thanks. Aristo.
