    Alphacam

    Hi,

    I have two questions:
    1. when you are doing pocketing in Alphacam - mill/router how do you setup the tool compensation?
    2. if I bought a second hand computer (with invoice), actually, a computer from a pile of computers from a company which went bankrupt and on this computer is installed a cam software with license, am I allowed to use it (legally)?

    Thank you,

    Zoltan

AlphaCam doesn't apply tool compensation with the pocketing routine. I don't know about the licensed software issue.

It depends on the license agreement, but if someone else has registered it, probably not unless the license is transferred through the software company. (If they allow transfers.)

Some license agreements only say that it can be used on a single computer, so you would be OK.

From my experience, the more expensive the software, the less likely you can legally use it.

As mentioned above Pocketing doesn't apply tool offset. The best thing to do with pocketing is to leave a few millimetres of stock [depending on your tool diameter], then clean up the pocket with a Finish operation.

The offset of which is determined by one's previous selection when specifying Tool directions etc...

As for the licensing, AlphaCAM are very strict on license ownership.

I'm sure one can obtain the software illegally with an illegal license; however, if you don't anticipate using the software enough to justify forking out for the annual license cost one can use the software online, paying by the hour.
