    Mitsubishi Meldas 64L Control Issues

I just picked up a small CNC lathe with a Mitsubishi Meldas 64L control. I'm having some basic functionality issues, likely because I am not operating it correctly. I'm used to Fanuc and Fagor. Anyone else out there running this control?

If so, I'm having an issue changing tools so that I can zero them. The control boots up with T0. If I change the tool by selecting "T" and a number it only sticks in MDI mode. When I switch to jog mode to touch off my work it resets to T0. The table position does not reflect any tool offsets.

Along the bottom on the monitor screen the first active status indicator says "LSK" which the manual indicates the machine is reading the tape drive. It doesn't have one...

I have the manuals and I just spent 8 hours doing trial and error with the manual and the control. I must be doing something very simple, very wrong. Seller cannot help me. The machine is a Mighty Viper VT-8 gang tool CNC lathe.

Thanks for any help you can send my way,

    Evan

It seems your post has touched on what might be more than one problem...

The LSK at the bottom is indeed "label skip" status, this is the normal state
of the control, which indicates that it's ready to go into auto mode and run a
    program.

You mentioned that entering a tool "sticks in MDI"......
Normal MDI ops include first setting the mode select on pandant to MDI
then you select the hard key labeled edit/mdi (sometimes also labeled program)
you would then select the MDI soft key. once in the mdi editor you would
see "MDI no setting", entering the t0101 then input you should see
"MDI setting complete" (or something similar) then cycle start and you should get an index. BUT if you have gang tools there would be no movement until
    you make an axis move)

Tool offset values can be set on tool/param hardkey offset softkey
enter some values like -3. -4. etc and kick in the offset (might be t0001)
    anything different?

because you have a gang tool setup, I've seen machines that don't index anything (because its on a gang) but use different offset values ie t0101
is main tool post using offset 1 and t0104 would be offset 4 and so on..

There is also an automatic Tool Length Measurement possibility (TLM), if
the OEM wrote that into his ladder.... if you see "TLM" in reverse video
on the tool offset screen it may be waiting for you to press input key
sonce it's ion auto TLM (This is usually a pushbutton on pendant of PLC switch)

    Hi,

Try by using Txxxx command. For e.g.,
    T0123 where,
    01 - Tool Number
    23 - Offset Number
Get your CAM Programs rotated by CAS software to REDUCE SETUP TIME on your VMC & HMC. To download it, visit www.computeraidedsetup.com
