I've emailed joe about this but will post the question here too...

I just ended a bad relationship with a CNC kit sold by another individual online. Bought it for using Vectric's V Carve Pro and Adpire carving software. I have a lot invested in it but turns out I have to scrap it. The gantry sags and this ruins the carvings. Nothing that can be done other than to haul it to the dump.

The plan now is to salvage what I can (like the 2.2 kw spindle) and hopefully find another kit that's built better. Is the gantry on the hybrid 4x4 stiff enough to support my spindle w/o drooping? The current machines gantry droops nearly .075".

I read good things about joes machines here and on other forums, but after getting burned to the tune of over $3k on the current machine I'm just being cautious.

The Evolution machine used a 3"x6" beam and several of my members use the water cooled spindle the beam will work very well with what you have.

One questions what are your motors and electronics, psu included with amps.

I have 3 each 425 oz nema 23 motors, 3 each cw230 drivers, a 30 amp pwr supply, PC w/ mach 3.

425oz motors will work fine I have used those unipolar motor wired to bi-polar on my original hybrid machine. You will however need another motor and driver as the machine uses 2 motors on the Y-Axis to drive the gantry from both sides, this increases the power to move the gantry, i.e. each motor only moving 1/2 the weight. we just simply slave the axis in mach3 or EMC.

On the PSU 30 amp is more than enough, I would make sure you use 36v or above, 48v is better of course.

I think your drivers may be limited to 36v max. so a 36v PSU will work.

I can scrounge another motor and driver and yes the cw230 have 36 volt limits.

I've e-mailed asking Joe this, but maybe others who've built the Evo 1.0 could weigh in too. What types of more significant tools or machinery are necessary for this build? I'm not looking for sepecifics, but a good general idea to see if this is feasible with the tools I have access too. I know this may be a tough question due to the many ways or different options of building, but any help would be appreciated.

Tools I currently have:
Miter Saw
Reciprocating Saw
Hand Drill
Drill Press
Common Small Tools (Wrenches/Screw Drivers/etc..)

Thank you Joe, I most certainly received your e-mail. I unfortunately don't have a welder, so looks like I'll have to come up with some wooden table. I've just purchased the plans and once activated, I'll be rummaging through the forums to get a game plan together.

This is my first post here and my first step towards building a CNC machine. I hope to learn here and build a CNC machine.
First what is difference between Joes 4x4 Hybrid and Joes Evolution.
Apart from Machine Hardware, what electronics will be involved.

Yes i cut the evolution kits on mine. 3/4" plate aluminum that people are
using to build theirs.
