    new question... slot cutters.

I have a need to cut some slots for a lid to slide into.. they make tools for doing this but I can't figure out how to program it into deskproto, basically it's for cutting an overhang, I"m sure you get what I'm saying.

I went into the tool library and tried to add a tool, I set the cutter length to the 'thickness' of the slot cutter then set the flute length to the same, set the cutter diameter to the actual diameter of the cutting wheel and set the shaft diameter to what it is (1/8th).

When I did this, the little preview turned into a big red X. I have a feeling it doesn't know how to handle that set up... any insights?

This is probably a software issue. Can't help you directly since I have never used DeskProto. Your link shows up with all different kinds of tools. I think you are trying to reference something similar to a wooddruff keyway cutter or a t-slot cutter? Probably if you increase the cutter length to be equal to or greater than your depth, the red X will go away.

Not sure about Deskproto, but most similar programs can't do undercuts. The easiest way to do undercuts is to do some trickery with 2D CAD-CAM, or get a very expensive CAM program that can do them.

Gerry, you have hit the nail on the head: I could not have phrased it any better.
