Autocad to Smithy EMC2? Hello earth to Smithy!

So how do you get Autocad converted to EMC2? I am totally lost.

you need a CAM program. Something that will take the shape you have made and turn it into a toolpath. Look for Cut2d, i think you can get a demo.

there are probably hundreds of options, so search around and find what fits you best.

    TO MILL 3D....

Let me explain better sorry. I have EMC2 powering a Talon CNC 1240 Bed Mill and all my designs are done in Autocad .DXF file format.

Yet the EMC2 software requires .NGC files in order to mill in 3D.

I would appreciate any advice from anyone who might have a solution for me to be able to Post process .DXF to .NGC?

ngc is the file extension that linuxcnc (emc) uses. It is just regular g-code.
If you have a cam program already, just choose the linear inch (or mm) g-code post processor. tap is the file extension on some. just rename to .ngc, or let linuxcnc look for different extensions.

is this what you mean? or do you need a recommendation for 3d cam software? I though that autocad was only 2d drafting. do a search for vectric, artcam, dxf2gcode, etc.. you literally have a hundred choices.

This can read DXF and create the Gcode you need. Just save the Gcode as .ngc
