Hello...
after 10 years... Does anyone make that ATC?
Slavko.
Ask again in 7 years when the 10 years have passed :P
I haven't finished off the ATC part of this yet, it would be quite a lot of work to retrofit that sort of system to my existing router. Perhaps if I build a new one I'll put it on that.
Uff I just look the Join date of last poster (mactec54) instead posting date.
I'm interested on that one, but I has in doubt that lock nut can get lose by vibrations.
And how you prevent balls to fall out when no chuck is in spindle?
No, the thread angle on the nut makes it very difficult (and has never happened to me) to loosen by vibrations, and the vibrations are always across the whole spindle, not between the nut and it's thread. The holes for the balls are drilled at a smaller size right through, then the right size drill bit is stopped a little bit before it goes right through, so the balls cannot fall out.
So the balls can move les than 1/2 of diameter. Probably only the 1/3 of diameter. What size they are? And the locking nut on photo seems to be some kind of plastic. So you use that and have no problem?
Thanks for answers...
Slavko
Yeh, the optimal pressure angle for them is less than a quarter out anyway.
Plastic is fine, not much load on it due to tapers/pressure angles etc.
What's the size of balls?
quarter inch i think
And one more question. The tapper (green on drawing) seems to be made of two parts. Is this only drawing artefact or is inded 2 parts. Does small green part move inside bigger one or is fiksed?
It was made in two parts, which were pressed together, so it works as a single part.
Good Morning
Just came across you post and very interested, I have downloaded your files but the parts are all miss allaigned and was wondering if you possibly have got a complete assembly available as one file with multiple parts. I can open almost any file so the format does not make a difference.
Thank you so much in advance.

Wow this is a pretty amazing project. Do you have a video of this working? Clearly ATC is of interest to many hobbyist cnc users on cnczone, as many people have adopted the Chinese Spindles. Its really amazing they don't offer them on ebay for good prices. The Chinese manufacturers do offer ATC spindles on ebay but they are 6X what the standard spindles are so they keeps most people away. Anyway pretty amazing engineering feat congratulations.
Russ
Can you please reupload all the pictures of each part,
So anything new about this ATC unit? Anyone had one of this ATC unit still working?
regards Max
Stepcraft is the only seller of a genuinely cheap and simple aftermarket ATC that I was able to find but their product only fits Kress routers which is just stupid,
The cheap ATC / quick change adapters made for R8 and BT30 belt spindles are glorified motorized torque wrenches on the drawbar. I would copy that design for ER type spindle if the goal was cheap and simple. There are plenty of straight shank ER toolholders that could be used. I have 5 ER32 tool holders with 1/2" x 2" shanks that would be perfect for this.
Hi sir
It is very nice and useful project for me.
Can you explain where should I attach my motor and my air inlet.
And also how it work in video ?????
Eagerly waiting for your response.
Thank you very much
