    geometry LOCKED OUT!!!

    started a new job, must make a 15T controller work. I suspect the machine was set up to be "operator-proof" at some point. The geometry page is there, and I can adjust the numbers, but it has no affect on the turret. This, of course, means I cant use tool nose radius compensation either.

    What codes are you using to enable TNR?

    thanks for the re - I havent bothered trying G41/G42 yet - I'm still trying to just get the geometry offsets to affect the tools.

    I spoke by phone to the guy who ran the machine before me, and he said the only way he could run the machine is using the G50 X___Z___ command each time a tool is called up. As follows:

    %
    O1234;

    G20 G40;
    G00 G28 U0 W0;

    N1 (ROUGH TURN);
    G00 G28 U0 W0;
    T0400;
    G96 G99 M03 S400 T0404;
    G50 X12.2230 Z20.2384;

    ---[ROUGH TURNING]---

    G00 G28 U0 W0 M09;
    M01;

    N2(FINISH TURN);
    G00G28U0W0;
    T0500;
    G96G99M03S400T0505;
    G50 X12.4480 Z20.1133;

    You get the idea........the wear offsets work, but the geometry offsets don't. I'm very annoyed - I've been using TNR for 25 yrs, now I can't use it. I'm fluent on 18-T, 21-T, 0-T, but this 15-T is just a pain. I'm having to re-learn all the canned cycles because the format was different back then.

    It unusual for Geometry Offset pages to be available and not functional. Are the Wear Offsets on separate pages, or are they included in a another column of the same page as the Geometry?

    If the control does not support Geometry Offset Programming, that's not to say that it doesn't support TNR compensation. This function is a basic function of all Fanuc controls right back to their very first controls.

    With regards to the format of the later model controls, it can be set via parameter bit 0001.1 to use the same format as the Series 15 control, but not the other way around. The two block cycle format normally associated with 18-T, 21-T, 0-T etc. controls is referred to as Series 16 Standard format, and the one block format as Series 15 format. If you wanted to cut a multi-start thread using G76 and a Q argument to index the various thread starts, then the later model controls would have to be set to use Series 15 format.

    Regards,

    Bill

    I worked a 15TT for ~15 years so very familiar. check your option parameters. the geometry option is probably not enabled.
    The option you need is "TOOL GEOMETRY/WEAR OFFSET MEMORY B"
    PM me if you need more info (forum rules prevent detailed public discussion of option parameters)
