New Tool Length Offset Setting Device

    Hi, Everyone,

Here is some information on a new product we have developed:

Our first offering - the TLOsetter

Save time and improve accuracy in setting Tool Length Offsets, typical repeatability +/- .0005". Work as a true professional by avoiding setting surface zero of every tool you use - set surface zero for only one tool for each job no matter how many tools you use.

Easily attaches to the table for quick and consistent setting of TLOs. Easier yet if you keep the TLOsetter mounted to the table and reserve a Work Offset, such as G57 or G58, just for setting TLOs.

Simple hardware installs quickly, bolts directly to table T slots

Results automatically entered in Tool Table - a real time saver and more accurate than hand measuring

Just plug into the Accessory DIN Jack on Tormach® mills, both the PCNC-1100 and the PCNC-770. Adapters available for other brands.

Requires Mach3 software, (one unused input is needed for machines other than Tormach), comes complete with accompanying software and complete instructions.

Priced at only $129.00 as an introductory offer - including Priority Mail shipping in the US.

Visit our website at CNCneeds - Home to view a short video showing its accuracy.

"...set surface zero for only one tool for each job no matter how many tools you use."

    Magic?

You magically don't have to locate any other tools?? No matter how many, no matter how long??

Delrin and a piece of conductive material? .0005 accuracy? Sounds to good to be true.

underthetire, I just tried to find a comparable item anywhere near our price and could not. In fact, I was only able to find one similar product.

Would you be kind enough to recommend a couple of sources? Sure would like to know who and what our competition is.

    Thanks,

Here is one that can be used as a tool probe or a touch probe. Much more versatile than yours and only $5 more.

Hey, 109jb, thanks for the input. Appreciate you taking the time to contribute.

It does not look like this unit just plugs into the Accessory DIN Jack on Tormach machines and it does not appear that it can be mounted to the table.

It does not indicate whether the measurements are entered automatically into the Mach3 Tool Table.

So, there does appear to be some differences. Guess it depends on what tradeoffs are acceptable to the individual user.

We don't have to be the only product out there, just the best at the best price.

underthetire - thanks for being involved. Appreciate it.

However, it is not just for Tormach machines - it operates on Mach3 and the installation can be modified for other machines. It is just that it is so easy with Tormach in that our unit plugs into the Accessory DIN Jack on the Control Panel. Pretty simple for Tormach users, but there are adapters for other machines so it is not limited to just Tormach.

It appears to me that all this product is is a momentary contact pushbutton switch mounted in a machined block. In the picture you can see the typical mounting nut for this type switch. As far as interfacing with the Tormach, the DIN plug is readily available for a couple dollars, and the Tormach manual gives the details of the pin connection, which is to just hook the switch to pins 4 & 5 of the connector. Doesn't appear to be very sophisticated at all or worth the $129 price tag.

    109jb,

    Thanks for your opinion.

Probably you and many others could create the switch assembly if they had the talent, the tools and chose to take the time (rather than making chip$).
In addition, there are probably some that could write the software program to utilize the switch assembly.

However, there are probably others who would gladly pay a few bucks for a very useful and accurate tool that accomplishes the same thing as the $800 plus versions out there.

Just got a great question about using the TLOsetter:

If you have a index-able cutter, and or a fly cutter how can you use the touch tool?

    Here is the answer:

For any tool that has a cutting point lower than the center of the tool just jog in X and/or Y so that the low point (min Z) is over the contact point of the switch, from there on it works the same. Start the macro, enter the tool number, and voila, the TLO is now entered in the tool table.

    jos68eph,

The TLOsetter is NOT just for Tormach machines. It will work on any machine using Mach3. However, an adapter is needed to connect it since it was designed to plug into the Accessory Jack on the Tormach User Control Panel.

We will make up a cutom pigtail of proper length to connect to the Breakout Board or other specific location needed.

    Thanks for taking a look.
