Angry Long length engraving bits / needle

Hi everyone, first time poster here so unsure if this is the correct section of the forum, there are quite a few eh.

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the minute, I've just bought an engraving machine and I'm wanting to change the bit to do some PCB's.

The current bit (I'll try and get some pictures) resembles a blunt pencil currently...

I'm wanting one of these -

    1/8 x 4-1/2 Cutters : Bits & Bits

But I can't find them on-line, let alone in the UK.

Can someone tell me what they're called? Or perhaps provide a link to somewhere or someone who can sell me one/some?

This is really killing my excitement for my new projects as well as having my own CNC machine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

The top photo is a single flute engraving tool. You may be able to get both at a company like Harvey Tool in the US.

Find Specialty Carbide End Mills and Cutting Tools at Harvey Tool

Harvey Tool - Carbide Engraving Cutters from 30 to 120 Degrees at Harvey Tool!

Thanks Kim, that's really helpful. I was hoping to get them from the UK as I'll no doubt want different type from time to time and don't really want to have to have long lead times waiting for bits etc.

I don't think the import duty will count due to the weight of the object eh.

Any one else have any other suggestions?

    Cheers!

    halfround engraving bit..
the long type is designed for top loading

generally, the toploading makes the set easier.. when it touch surface you can lock the bit..

onsrud, and bitsbits has this type tool yet...

    Engraving Bits

but i dont know if they send to england..

if you were using cnc, what works with er collet, the ebay also has million of bit..different angles, and small dia halfround cutters..

Any tool grinder can make these for you cheaper than you can import them.

Thanks for your reply! I'm going to be changig over to a Kress 1050 soon enough, but I want to test the setup as it is before I go tearing it apart. Getting it to communicate with the PC is being enough of a task in its own right

I'll have to have a look around to see if someone could make the bit for me, otherwise I'll just have to go and import them and take the sting I think.

I would have thought it would have been something readily available within the "engraving" community yano? I've ordered some of the collet type bits from ebay, and this is how I've come to realise the stage I'm at

I'll check out those links and see what I can find. I think it might just be easier to upgrade to the Kress and just get on with it

    Thanks again all, ever helpful!
