My pre-build thread for my first milling machine! (G0704)

So to start off I was originally going to build a CNC table to cut an aluminum spacer I have been designing. After advice from others, they recommended looking into a mill and adding cnc capabilities.

heres that thread if you care to gandor
    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy-cn...ns_make-4.html

But after researching more of peoples recommendations, I've came across some of the popular bench top machines and narrowed it down to the g0704. It seems fitting for my needs!

Here is a picture of the part I am making. This is the reason why I am building this machine. This is 1" aluminum.
old 3/4" Version and New 1" version

Just to get an Idea how/where it is mounted to. Test fitted the 3/4" version. Fits like a glove!

Now I have a few questions..
As for the g0704 I've read about the motor issue people have had and grizzly replacing them. but they were older posts and mostly from 2011. Do they now come with the "newer" motor grizzly has been replacing them with, or do i have to hope my motor dies fast in order to get the new one under the warranty?

Since I wont be turning this into a cnc right away, how do I mill the arches on the inside of the flange in my picture?

    Thanks!

Also what accessories do you guys recommend getting right off the bat?
I need everything as I have none.
End mills - should i get them from grizzly or are enco's better?
    r8 collet set
    clamping kit...
    anything else?

is grizzly's tooling okay to start with or is enco/another company better?

    TIA

    Interesting little project.

Before you do anything make sure you have enough X & Y travel to accommodate the part and any fixturing or clamping you will make use of.

Be prepared to spend as much or more than the cost of the mill. In this case you may be able to get by with less if you focus on just the one part.

It is really up to you, do consider local vendors if you have any near by.

    Measuring tools for one.

Every vendor has a range of tooling, so you need to select a product suitable for your project. There are a large number of potential vendors. Personally I like MSC as their web sight use to be highly functional. I say "use to" because their beta update to their site has sucked a bit.

As to the motor issue on these mills it still looks like a crap shoot. I'd suggest a planned upgrade. Frankly a bit more spindle speed can be useful in aluminum anyways
