    Full backup for later use

    Hello. I got a machine with a 21i-T controller.
I do not want to regret later something that I did not backup in a machine, so I ask for a list of what is important to backup, before I start to change things. I searched in this forum but I did not found a clear reply. My objective is to backup everything that is possible to backup.

Ladder - with ladder III software
Parameters - with a card on boot, correct?

    anything else?
    Thank you very much.

Ladder and SRAM backup. You can do both with just a card.

you searched? there's a thread about this exactly on the very first page of the Fanuc forum....
    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/fanuc/...do_i_need.html

the Ladder III software is for creating/viewing and editing the ladder. you don't need to use Ladder III to backup the ladder in the machine. Using the correct procedure you can save it to a card plugged into the PCMCIA slot on the control panel. the ladder backup file is not human readable.

you should also keep separate copies of the parameters and PMC parameters (they are just text files) for reference because the SRAM backup contains everything except the ladder and is not human readable either. if a parameter is accidentally changed you'll have nothing to refer to and you don't want to be wiping memory and re-installing the SRAM file just to fix one parameter because there's a big potential to screw the entire machine if you don't follow the correct procedure. with a separate copy of the parameters you can just look at the numbers.

    Thank you,
I really did not saw it.
I managed to backup the SRAM without problems (one single file), now I entered in system data save and I have a few lines: NCBAsic, PMCAOPT2 and so on...
Trying to backup any of those the CNC give:

FILE SAVE ERROR. HIT SELECT KEY
    PROTECT FILE

... The file is protect even for reading it?
There is any parameter that I should change in order to get access to it?
    Any direction is welcome.
    Thank you

I was able to save from the system data save the PMC-RA file. It was the only file that I was able to save.
It is possible to save the remaining?

    NCBASIC
    PMCAOPT2
    PMC0BSC
    GRAPHIC
    DG2SERVO
    NC1 OPTN

Like I told before I do not want to regret after. Because if anything happens them someone will tell me: You should backup that one before ...

    Mr FordAV11:
you should also keep separate copies of the parameters and PMC parameters (they are just text files)

How to get those from the CNC? Using also the card?

I am sorry if the question was basic.
    Thank you

PMC-RA could be the PMC parameter file or the ladder (check the file extension or open the file and view it with a text editor). If it's a lot of random junk characters it's the ladder. If it's a long list of numbers then it's the PMC parameters.
The other items are system files that can't be backed up. I'm sure there is a secret password or access method for that but it's..... secret.
To backup the parameters, go to your parameter screen (SYSTEM/PARAM) then page right until you see punch. Press PUNCH then ALL then EXEC (the exact button sequence may be different but you should be able to figure it out easily)
You need to set your output device to 4 on parameter 20 (i.e. parameter 0020 = 4) if you want to punch to the card.

Just for others reference it is:

    System/Param -> (OPRT) -> Then screen right

So now I got the Ladder (the .000 file in my case), the parameters and the SRAM. I am safe now?

    ladder should be auto-named PMC-RA.LAD. I don't know what .000 is.

Sram backup should have NC parameters, PMC parameters, PROGRAMS, Offsets, MACROS. You may backup each in edit mode using your card.
The SRAM backup should be done with your axes in reference position and tool #1 selected in the turret. This way you will not have problems when adjusting the zero position of your turret if the turret has a fanuc servomotor.

    Alex

Which SRAM? I use a FANUC A16B-2201-13x SRAM card (up to 1MB) which works on the System 6??

    I know theres others...

    A20B-2902-0210
    A20B-3901-0942
    A20B-3900-0160
    A20B-3900-0052

I still need to back up my 16MB. Everything else is pretty well backed up.

The SRAM BOOT back up takes care of ALL sram in the system that needs backing up. The SYSTEM FILES in the flash memory can also be backed up, but that has to be done by BOOting using two different function keys.
