    spindle arm stuck w/ tools

    hello, 1st time user,
question: have a haas super vf-3 vmc milling machine,
the arm which holds and moves tools from tool changer to spindle has frozen with a tool holder in each pocket. the arm is all the way up and stuck, how do i move the arm down? the spindle is all the way up to the limit, i can see about an inch of the taper on the tool in the arm.
question again is how to manually move the arm all the way to the bottom so i can remove tools in pockets.
    thanks,
    richard de leon

Push the "RECOVERY" button is the simple answer...then follow instructions.

If you have/need the manual, it is all in there.

This happens if air gets low or some other glitch every now and then. Super easy to clear. One note when you hit the atcfwd/atcrvs to actually move the arm...if one isn't moving it then push the other...keep pushing until the arm is home

One extra note - double check which tool went into the pocket and which tool went into the spindle and MAKE SURE they are the right ones.

Depending on when the alarm happened I've seen it actually reverse the tools in the control. Just verify that the two tools that were in operation during the change are correct after you are done.

To add to this; the tool changer arm is run off a big cam. When using ATC FWD/REV the cam will rotate causing the arm to run through its cycle of movements. The direction will be determined by whichever button you press; FWD or REV.

Depending on the age of your machine and software version, the recovery process may have an "auto" recover mode, otherwise you will have to use the manual functions.
