Is it possible to install a RPM sensor inside a 2.2kw Water Cooled Spindle

    Good day all.

I am looking at buying one of the chinese 2.2 kw water cooled spindles.

My current setup is just a cheap 1050w wood router and SuperPID2.

I have also set Mach3 so that if the spindle speed is out of a set range the system will then enter into E-Stop.

So I would like to know if there is room inside the spindle, and if it is possible to install a sensor within the chinese 2.2 kw water cooled spindle so that mach3 can monitor the spindle rpm speed.

    Thanks for your time.

    Best Regards.

You can see the rpm on the vfd, and should be able to calibrate Mach to display it if you are using mach to control the spindle speed.

You shouldn't need a speed feedback for a chinese spindle. The speed will stay very close to the commanded speed (allowing for a little bit of slip 1-2%). As it gets further from synchronous speed (loaded), the torque increases to overcome the load.
This is not the case with a series excited brushed motor used in most routers, and hence the SuperPID is needed.

Thanks for your replys and feedback.

I will indeed be looking at fully controlling the spindle via Mach3.

Over the last few weeks I have been looking at ways to interface the VFD to Mach3.

I see that anumber of pepole have done this via MODBUS.

Someone just wrote a new plugin to control the Chinese VFD's with Mach3. Seems like the easiest way to go.
