I worked for a couple of years in a die cast shop, you kinda got use to fires and things burning up. Once I left there I was actually surprised how much some companies get excited over even a controlled flame.
One has to wonder what happened.
You bet it could.
One day the welder was welding near the bocat skidloader (mistake #1) and the darned thing cought on fire. We weren't very prepaird (mistake #2) for this and it showed. We ran all over the place looking for a fire extinsher. When we found one, it was not in working order (mistake #3). The gardern hose we had wasn't long enough to reach (mistake #4). No 5 gal. Pails near by. Good thing it was winter and we had a sheavel so we could get some snow dumped on it. Once we finaly got it out, the shop was filled with black somke. So we opened up the doors to air it out, witch would of not been bad, but it was only 5*F outside. Then to top all that off, we had some customers in the shop at the time doing a run off on the project we just got finished for them. Needless to say, we have fire extungers at every exit and welding bay now that are regulery checked.
