Luthier looking for Rhino expert for hire

I am a luthier with a CNC router but lacking in 3d modeling skills. I am seeking someone to create 3d models for archtop instruments as well as necks. I can supply dxf files of all appropriate arching profiles.

    Sounds interesting!

But as long as you have sections and shaps in 2 D data available there is not that huge step to learn the remaining ! Get the whole satisfaction and learn how to do this yourself!

e.g. a violine neck is in principle rather difficult to think a solution for but the CAD work is more or less easy compared with!

I tried to make a little mockup ... quick and dirty but it shows one basic way to go for

    -draw the scroll
-Intersect the (extruded scroll with a height profile ( in my example it is a cone surface)
-create a second rail ( is the upper transition arc and the center axis of the cone
    - do the ladder work ( just to define the "flow" of your scroll)
-afterwards do the meshing, flexible fillet and post ( clean up) work!

This just took me 0.5 h

If you want more details you also could run mudbox and import the volume to clay - modificate it ( dragon heads, snakes or monsters ratehr everything is possible ( Zbrush is similar but ( just for me) not that convinient!)

P.S. I'm not that much involved making instruments, so I beg your pardon if there would be some stylistic or other rough faulties in my "design"- its just to show up a principle solution

Why reach for speed, when you could have precision instead!!!

    Thanks for all the replies.
Luthier- I would like to hear more about your work but it seems you do not have your PM enabled.

    Hi,

I have been a luthier for 2 years now and have very extensive knowledge and experience with Rhino 5, Sprut Cam and operating a CNC machine. I have been lucky enough to have the experience of programming musical instruments and doing extensive practice runs with the CNC all day, every day for quite a while now. I have already programmed:

    F5 mandolin with optional engravings
    maccafferi (jigs and moulds)
    gibson les paul
hammered dulcimer (dovetail jig, inlay and 3d carving)

I am interested to putting these skills and programs to good use. Contact me if you are interested.

    Hi

I have been a luthier for the past 2 years. I have vast experience with Rhino, generating g-code, and cutting on a CNC machine. I've had to opportunity to design and machine instruments all day every day for quite some time. At this point I am confident I can draw anything. Instruments and projects worked on include:

f5 mandolin (top, back, side jig, blocks, neck, headstock, engravings, inlay)
maccafferi (lamination jig, rosette jig, rosette channel and sound hole jig, neck, headstock)
gibson les paul (body, control cavities, neck, headstock)
hammered dulcimer (angled dovetail joint jig, inlay, 3d carving)

I am trying to embed a slide show of some pictures. If this does not work see below link to pictures. Feel free to contact me and I look forward hearing from you.
