    Honda connector troubles

    Hi all,

I bought a replacement servo feedback cable for one of my machines. The manufacturer was supposed to leave the connector on one end off so that I could pass the cable through a cord-grip. They didn't. So, I'm wondering if there is a safe way to push the pins out of a Honda MR-20 connector body. The pins are female, and I believe that they are crimped on to the wires. The other side is a soldered amphenol connector, so I think that depinning the Honda side would be easiest. I could be wrong.

    Thanks!

There is a simple but special pin remover for the Honda connectors, It is very difficult to remove them without it.
The Amp connector can usually be taken apart easily by removing the circlip retainer.
Needless to say, make sure you make note of the colour/pins before removing, also the KEY position can be changed, so make note of that position also.

    Al,

Where can I get this special Honda tool? I'm having trouble locating it online. Is there any chance Radio Shack would have it?

Radio shack will definitely not have it!
Many years ago I got the crimp tool and the remover, where it was from has been lost in time!
I did find a Honda connector supplier/specialist for connectors some time ago, if you can find one of these, they should have.
If I come across who it was I will post it.

I believe the correct tool is model MRP-MF. After getting a look at what the tool and the crimp terminals look like, I decided to make my own tool by grinding the end of a paperclip thinnner. That worked great. Now, I'm back in business.

    Pitre,

This was a while ago, so I don't remember exactly what I did... I think I took the end of a paperclip (you can use any small diameter pin) and ground a flat on opposite sides to make the profile more rectangular than round. This allowed it to slide into the connector. Then, I was able to push it into the connector next to the pin and release the pin. If you play with it, you should be able to get it. Don't use too much force, and you shouldn't damage anything. Good luck!
