Hey All,
Ive been using my Syil X3 for some time, but I am only now getting the CNC stuff working. It would be great to have someone over to make sure I am doing things right.
Happy Milling,
Joe

I'm in Oakland; where are you? What's the problem, exactly?

Andrew,
Nothing is particularly broken, but everything I have learned has been trial by fire. It would be awesome to learn how to tune my mill and get the Z axis going faser. Basically looking for a head nod in that I am in the ballpark and not going to kill anyone or myself. I am in Potrero just off the 9th st exit.

That's not too far. Are you using Mach3, or some other control program? Usually, Z-axis speed is less of an issue than X and Y, since it doesn't need to move as far or as frequently, and plunging isn't something you want to do too fast. But if you've got a heavy spindle assembly, that might be limiting the speed you can go without faulting. And unless you're flinging parts off the mill, you probably won't kill anyone (wear your safety glasses, though...)

Andrew got me straightened out. I didn't know that you can cut 1/2 the thickness of your end mill deep. I dont have any format training and I have had a mill for several years. Its nice to finally get it making chips.
