Question Anyone experience with new Bridgeport (Hardinge) VMC (XR series) ?

Anyone experience with a new Bridgeport XR series VMC ?
Doing studies for our company and Bridgeport XR series look adequate - also interested in the XR1270 HPD high torque version. Idea is to use these for heavy work, steel, high volume.
Are these VMC's as sturdy as the Bridgeport reputation ? Service from Hardinge ? Cost ?

Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this, thx. Stan

Honestly, look at a DOOSAN 50 taper machine. This is from 40 years in this business.

    Bridgeport XR series VMC
If you are looking for a high-specification vertical machining centre that carries that extra punch - especially when machining larger workpieces - you will be more than impressed with the XR 1000 VMC. High-performance spindle technology from Weiss with the new grease replenishing system, a 30 position ATC, latest generation controls, tried and tested throughspindle coolant delivery and a swarf management system that includes a chip conveyor – the XR 1000 is more than a match for all your production requirements.

I've seen a big Doosan peel milling 1018 with a 1" endmill - serious machine. The chips sounded like they might come through the wall of the thing. Super rigid, great surface even with high speed roughing. Wish i could afford one :violin:

All/most bridgeports are just a re badged Taiwan/Singapore machine. The local Okuma dealer services Bridgeport here, so service may vary. No, Bridgeport is not what they used to be, living on the name nowadays. I agree with others, if your going middle range machine, look at Doosan, kitamura,

    Unhappy

We have 2 (2007) Bridgeport XR1000 machines with a Fanuc control.
Nice machines, but ugly to get parts for.
Our local dealer is Gosiger in PA. The parts list shows drawing numbers for part numbers and they need to go back to Taiwan for part number verification and price. Parts usually take 2-3 weeks.
Had to replace the Ice cube relay cards in both machines...The originals were cheap and the relays kept working loose. The machines were doing weird stuff and causing issues with the tool magazine.
Air pressure switches are mounted after the in-line oiler and the switches drown in oil.
You need to have at least a 1/2" air line feeding the machine if you are going to use the air blast while cutting or it will alarm out.
The X axis spring steel band behind the front table cover breaks every 6 months.
The spindle motor fans only last about 1 year.

    Other than these problems....Nice machines
