Hope this is right place, cyclone/thein collector

    Hello Everyone,

I am in the throws of looking at designing and building possibly a 1 or 2 cyclone/thein dust collection system.

I have a small 1hp dust collector with a 100mm inlet and 114mm outlet with a bag attached and am thinking of using either a cyclone or thien and wondering what other people out there are using and the pros and cons.

The other problem i am having is working out my sizeings for each of them and wondering if anyone has some dimentions they would like to share for either of them and that works well for them.

Thanks for your advice and help.
    William.

Personally, I'd recommend at least a 2HP collector to start with. Adding a cyclone or Thien is more restrictive, and you'll lose quite a bit of CFM. Imo, a 1HP collector is barely adequate as it is.

Here's everything you need to know about cyclone sizing.

as for the Thien, ask on his forum.

I use a harbor Freight 2hp dust collector modified with a self made top hat cyclone, Wynn filter, and lots of alum tape to plug every hole.

I got the idea from Cory on lumberjocks and changed his thein lid to a top hat.

It had used a rockler dust right before it this does much better. It removes the dust, but it does not get all of the cuttings down in the cut.

I also just added a dustright quickconnect to my dust shoe, so I can use it to clean up what was missed while cutting.
