Epilog legend 32 LCD won't display anything

I bought a Legend 32 at government auction about a month ago. Been slowly reading up on it and fixing little stuff here and there.

One issue I have is that when I power the machine on, the machine beeps as ready, the LCD backlight comes on... but nothing displays on it.

The control panel is communicating with the motors tho. I can raise and lower the table by pressing "focus" and then turning the control knob. And the x/y motors work as well. When I press "reset" the head returns to the home position at the top left.

I took the control panel out completely and cleaned all the connections I could find. No dice.

The only thing I can think of is this potentiometer for contrast looked slightly bent. It's directly accessible from outside the machine. When I checked the legs for continuity, at first I read an open circuit between the wiper and one of the other legs. So I slightly bent it back and now it reads a different resistance depending on how I've adjusted the pot.

And still, nothing on the LCD when I power the machine on. Itried "jiggling" the contrast pot a little bit (very lightly) to see if I could get the screen to flicker some data, but nothing.

Friend of mine thinks it might be that one of the ICs on the display board has gone bad.

    Any ideas?

Here's a picasa album with all the pics of the item in question

Any help ya'll could throw at me would be most appreciated.

The LCD itself appears to be made by Hyundai

Haven't heard back from any of these parts wholesalers on price or minimum order for one.

Hasn't gotten wet... to my knowledge.

I did buy this at government auction. Looks like it spent it's life in the sign shop at an airforce base. Probably getting abused by underpaid airmen.

    So... no telling.

I have found a Newhaven display board for 9 dollars that appears to use the same kind of 1.25MM pitch 14 pin parlex data cable for connection between the controller board and the LCD.

It's a cheap thing to try, but I'm hesitant because I don't know if I'll harm the controller in the process. If I could find a datasheet on the hyundai lcd that would tell me what all of those 14 pin functions are, I could compare it to the datasheet on the Newhaven and have a better idea of whether or not it would work.

    Hi

Did you get any solution for that problem? I have the same one with my Legend 24EX.
It happend before, a few years ago, but was still under warenty, so they replaced the whole panel.

    Thanks,
    A.

Re: Epilog legend 32 LCD won't display anything

Anybody have any news on a replacement lcd panel? I talked to epilog and a new lcd board was 650 and they want the old one back!

Mine has some lines missing but it is still usable. I would like to source a cheap one if possible.
