Auto tool setter / touch plate ?

I want to make a touch plate but have a question.

I would be connecting the plate to a input pin on my gecko g540 controller and the tool would be ground .

Do i need to insulate the touch plate from the machine? If i were using a aluminum touch plate i would think that it would short if laying anywhere metal on the machine since its grounded . Am i correct to think this?

Also i was looking at a video and they had a touchplate/toolsetting screen in there mach3 .Where can i get that and is it just a addon tab on mach3 or do i have to get a whole new screen set?

Yes, it would probably need to be isolated, and it would be a new screenset.

I have used the "MachBlue-probing big tex" screenset and it works great. I think I picked it up somewhere here in the forums a while back.
