    Oil to use

What oil should I be using to oil the ways of a dovetail? Any special oil required or will any gear oil do?

If special oil is required, what are the requirements?

Vactra way oil is the real stuff but a lot of us use a low viscosity non-detergent motor oil.
    I run 0W-20.

Wait for enco free shipping or 20% off (or whatever) and get a jug of vactra 2.

A gallon is only 18$ regularly and will last years and years on a hobby machine.

For the extremely light-duty, low-hours service a hobby machine will see, it really doesn't make one bit of difference what kind of oil you use, just use *something*. A non-detergent oil would be preferred, but nearly anything can be used.
