Was wondering if anyone offers a X,Y, Z kit, that has all the drive components, motors, gears, controllers, wiring etc. to build my own CNC Plasma cutter, have looked at torchmates gantry kit (little pricey), pretty mechanically inclinded, but when it comes to the drives, belts, controllers necessary to pull this off kind of in the dark.(since there are soo many different ways to go) Would like to build a 48" x 48" table, with Z-axis torch height adjustment, also wanting to know what software would work good without plopping down 2 or 3 grand.

Yes there are three axis kits available but most fall into the same price range you mentioned.
Put that mechanical inclination to work & build your own table.

Download & print the plans, study various posts, ask questions, and you can build it yourself.

Very popular software programs are Sheetcam to make your G code & Mach3 to control your system. These are available at less than $300 for the pair.

One thing i have noticed by looking at all the custom setups, was the variety of drives that everyone is using for the X & Y axis, was wondering what is the best in terms of dependability and accuracy., have seen belt, screw and gear drive., can anyone shed some light on this for me, looks like the table is pretty straight foward in terms of building, i wanted to do something like a 48"x48", and also would like to know on this small of a table would i have to worry about putting a drive on both ends of the gantry for the X-direction, or would one be sufficient ?
