    Need help with ModBus

I have a Delta VFD and a 2.2kW spindle. I would like to set up control via Mach3, but I don't even know where to start.

I've done a ton of searching but all of the information seems very spread out.

I have experience with RS-232 and RS-485 for serial data and control of cameras.

    Here are a few questions;

    1. Do I need a plug-in for Mach?
    2. Is the ModBus signal sent via the serial port?
    3. Do I need an ModBus card or module or is it just wiring the serial port on the computer to the VFD.

Is there a ModBus reference manual for Mach3?

    Thanks,
    James

If you find anything useful let me know, I am attempting to build a Modbus interface into a peripheral.

Thanks Al. I'll take a look at see what I can find.

I just noticed that you have the same middle name as Winnie the Pooh. How cool is that.

A lot of good info there. Thanks for the link.

I'll post as much info as I can about my ModBus control once I get it all sorted out.

There is a member of the Mach forum that has written a plug in for the Huanyang that supposedly has the edge over the old one.
    A new Huanyang VFD plugin
It should be possible to change the register to suit most VFD's?

I've made some progress. At this point I have the interface cable wired and I am able to read and write to the registers with the ModBus test window.

So far I have been able to set the freq., start and stop the spindle in either direction and change direction while it is running. I guess the next step is to write the brains.

I'll post some tech docs what's it's working.

    Re: Need help with ModBus

Bringing up an old thread I know but how did you get things going? Was this a delta vfd m?
    Interface cable hook up?
I'm stump on where to start just like you were. I've had the vfd and spindle running for a year or so but never got around to automating the vfd control.
