    vf cooling winter shop use

I have a 2001 vf-e (similar to vf-0,1). I have it in my shop at home. I do not keep my shop heated in winter (WI) but I do have heat . Does a Haas mill need to use coolant to cool the spindle? If so, can you drain the spindle after use? I was hoping to use the mill a little this winter and use a mister/air unit for lubrication and cooling of the work/cutter. Thanks

Yes, the coolant does cool the spindle, but you could use it lightly even when no coolant is running. I often run parts without coolant, but would not want to run it for hours at 7500 rpm. Also, if it is that cold there, it will probably not heat up anyway. The heat would probably dissipate very quickly in the cold.

You may want to check with your coolant provider and see what the freezing point is for your coolant at a given concentration. May not freeze at all.
