Stepper Driver Settings (Microstep and Current)

    Hi Everyone

I am using a YKC2405M Microstep driver (Product Detail_stepping mot?? driver /steppin mot??/servo mot??/servo driver) with 57HB76-304 Stepper Motor (57HB series of two four phase hybrid stepping motor). The driver has available microstep settings from 400 to 25600 and available current setting from 0.71 to 3.00, the motor is 1.8 degree step angle current 3.0A/phase, what should is set the driver settings to? I presume that the current can be set to 3.00? But what about the microstep? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It doesn't matter what microstep you set it to as long as you set the software to match. I've found that eighth step gives pretty good smoothness without bogging down my CPU. Eighth step would be 1600 on your driver. Software setting depends on how many turns per inch your leadscrews are. For instance if you are using 2 turns per inch leadscrews, your software setting would be 3200 steps per inch, if you are using 10 turns per inch leadscrews your software setting would be 16000 steps per inch. The calculations above are all for eighth step mode.
