    Shallow hole tapping

    Interesting project:

We have to tap 100+ #10-32 blind holes (0.200" depth) in A36 (low carbon plate) in a VMC .

    Which would be better ?:

    Bottoming form tap

    Bottoming spiral flute tap

Let somebody else do the job.

A36 can sometimes be like machining cookie dough with the occasional nut embedded in it, it doesn't cut smoothly in my experience. I would go for form tap and use a realy good lubricant.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

    I second that.

Took a brief look this morning for one, Emuge has them.

I'm sure there are others as well.
