    Hurco SSM Keyboard issue

We have a Hurco Ultimax SSM Controlled bedmill and it has a PC keyboard connected to it with a USB adapter spliced into the old style keyboard connector on the machine and that worked until we tried to swap the usb keyboard for a different one and now nothing works. Any ideas?

not all USB keyboards are equal. Try a different one. The usb to PS2 adaptors are not protocol converters. it is a straight connect through. The protocol conversion is done in the keyboard. Some of the newer keyboards don't support the PS2 any more.
Now all that being said did you replace the keyboard because it didn't work, or you just wanted a replacement.

We were wanting to replace the keyboard that was on the machine with one that had a full number pad on the right. We tried a bunch but none worked, then we went to put the original back on now it dosent work. Someone has spliced a usb end on the original end so a usb keyboard could be used and that has been working until we tried a bunch of other usb keyboards.

Ok sounds like the spliced adapter is broken. may need to be replaced. Or one of the connections in the console is broken. With out knowing what machine this is. Get a usb to PS2 adapter and plug it straight in the control rack in the back of the machine. See if it works there. If you have a local computer store get a PS2 to XT/AT keyboard adapter(they are getting hard to find).
or order one from new egg. or you can just pull the adapter apart that you have and see if there is a broken wire. It hard to tell you where to start without knowing what machine you have and what year it is. fI you have a local computer store see if they have any XT/AT style keyboards, or PS2 keyboards and a PS2 to XT/AT adapters.

The most important thing to remember no matter what, make sure the keyboard is plugged in before turning on the power on to the machine. If the keyboard is not plugged in when the CPU boots the system will never detect that the hardware is there. And it won't search for it again after boot up..

We have plugged in directly into the the keyboard port in the rear control panel. No luck. Its like the port is just dead now.
