    Johnford VMC750 Tool Changer

We have a Johnford VMC750 with a tool changer that won't index all the way around without some assistance. We took it off the machine and are working on disassembling it, does anyone have any insight to tearing one of these down?

    Thanks,
    Don

We got it apart, the thrust bearing at the bottom was completely shot and the shaft was rusted to the carousel. We had to beat the shaft out with an aluminum plug and 3 lb. sledge hammer. We cleaned everything up and the shaft spun freely inside the carousel. From the top down there is a steel bushing followed by an area of aluminum and then the thrust bearing, the area of the aluminum is where all the corrosion was. We undercut the shaft in that area so there would be no more contact with the aluminum, black oxide on the shaft, reassembled with white lithium grease, replaced the thrust bearing and it indexes freely now.

    HTH,
    Don
