Southbend Magnaturn 612, from grave to production!

This will hopefully help some one out. MPM Inc. currently has 2 Southbend Magnaturn 612 lathes. It is my job to get them running. They were on wooden pallets with parts here and there. The PC that is suppose to run them is non functioning.

I think there are a few Magnaturn 612 Owners here that can offer some help.

So it looks like the secret is to turn on the main power to the lathe then after the cooling fans are up to speed power up the lathe. I have also had the old drives run through a recovery program to get everything back and bootable. Now I can tun this thing on and it works like a champ. I still have not made any parts with it yet but dont feel that will be an issue.

Good to see you have it working.

What tooling do you have for the machine?
I have Valenite ISO Screw Down Tooling.
I think South Bend Had Valenite make some custom length toolholders for the 612

Post some pictures of your first part!

Tooling I have 4 tools that is what it came with. I did buy manuals from Grizzly not really work the price but now I have them. The operation manual is kind of a must have.

Thanks for the update, I have the Assembly and Parts Drawings manual, and a version of the operations manual, but I think mine was for a prior version of the software. So have you made any parts yet?

David, may I purchase a copy of the parts manual from you? If not, can you give me a part number so I can try to get a part from South Bend?
I called South Bend today. They said my lathe is too old. They have no manuals and I can try to order parts if I have a part number.
My lathe is a CNC Magnaturn 612 serial number 00022 SL. I need the motor gear that spins the turret.
    thanks if you get this.
