I've decided to add a DRO to my lathe and mill Maximat Super 11 and V10P with milling head. I priced out a couple of packages from DROPros but I'm not ready to shell out 2 grand. I like magnetic scales, you can cut them to size and making your own is doable.
I'm going to use the AS5306 or the AS5311 IC's in 'A' (push/pull output). I'm not sure I need 2um (AS5311) accuracy 15um might be good enough and it's a lot cheaper! $3.00 a foot from Maker.
I'll try the 15um first (1.2mm pole) and if it's not accurate enough I'll have to go to the 1mm pole 2um tape:
here's a link to a 2um tape: (1mm pole)
DMB-A series magnetic stripe(Pole pitch:1+1mm) at $72.94USD in Instrument Parts & Accessories Directory on JointChoice.com
about $72.00 a meter.
I'll make the boards in Proteus and I already have plenty of microcontrollers and LED displays to make a nice display board and case.
Any input is greatly appreciated, especially by some of you who have done projects like this.
