    Toolsetter

Okay, can someone who has a Tormach Toolsetter educate me on how it works and what if any alternatives there are out there that will work with the ATC automatic tool setup routine.

Sounds like a good way to go but at $800+ I would like to have a warm fuzzy feeling about it.

I just use a height gauge on a surface plate with the TSS height gauge ring.

I use the Tormach height gauge and their little surface plate. It takes me maybe 60 seconds to measure the lengths for all the tools in a typical job, and enter them into the tool table. Can't imagine automating that process to be worthwhile.

~$100 for a Wildhorse probe, and set it up in its toolsetter configuration.

I have one and reckon it is cool how it just does it all. All you do is load the ATC with the tool numbers and tell it to touch off.
Up to you whether you want to spend the money.
The only thing I can't touch off is the Haimer, due to the spring in the Haimer being weaker that the toolsetter, the way I get around it (have posted this before)
is what I call the surrogate Haimer, where you measure the Haimer length at ZERO, record it and then using a setscrew toolholder(because they are the cheapest)
make the surrogate- which is a piece of bar with a step on it,so it can't push into the setscrew toolholder, And you machine it to the same length as the Haimer is at ZERO.
So all you do to use it is to use the surrogate to touch off then swap it and use the Haimer to set ZERO.

I love the toolsetter. I wouldn't have an ATC without it. Push of a button and you can watch it measure 10 tools, I could get a video of it tomorrow if you like?

No problem, I may actually have a video showing it in use already.
