Feed rate does not match motor velocity

Got my CNC mill up and running and I'm just trying to master the Mach3 software. Just a question:

How come the feed rate shows 6 inches per second in the DRO by default even though my max velocity is only ~70 inches per minute (~1.17 inches per second)? When I jog or run G00, the machine does not move at 6 inches/second.

    Thanks.

The feedrate DRO is 6inches/minute, which Mach3 defaults to at startup.
G00 moves are done at the velocity in the motor tuning screen.

Thanks for the reply. Can feed rate go above the maximum velocity? On a slightly related note, when should I use g0 instead of g1?

You can set the feedrate higher than the velocity setting, but the axis will not exceed the velocity setting.

G00 is typically used for rapid positioning moves, and G01 is used when cutting. G01 speeds are at the current feedrate settings, while G00 speed is the velocity setting.
