I can open all three Pablo's (AutoCAD R13, R14 & R2k) and the J.DXF but not the J2.DXF in LazyCAM. I get a MachManip error dialog box on the J2 file. There is no other text or explanation in the error box. Note that the file size on the J2.DXF file is about half that of the J.DXF file. I can open all five DXF's in SolidWorks DWGEditor 2005.

My PC has an Intel D945PSN desktop motherboard, Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz w/HT CPU, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive (98 GB free space), EVGA NVIDIA e-GeForce 6600 GT PCI-E 128 MB GDDR-3 DVI video adapter and supporting drives (DVD-R/RW, CD-R, and FDD). Operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Pro w/SP2.

They load in Rhino, but they don't look real healthy. Just a very odd sequence of curves that run together and look like three line segments in a row.

What are they supposed to look like?

Thanks guys for all your terific feedback.

As you may be aware Art is away on holiday in Cuba for a week.
Brian is holding the fort while he is away, and will also be releasing an updated version in this time.

If you would like to collectively store your input on the Mach forum for easy retrieval by Art and Brian, you can post in this thread http://machsupport.com/forum/index.p...sg1526#msg1526

There are a few little problems with the J and Pablo's files...
J should only be two tool paths one outer and one inner. There is a fudge factor that I am going to need to play with to fix that.

Pablo's files have a spline and there is no code to support that at this time. This could be why the files will not open but I think there is some other thing going on there

The J SHOULD open... it opens here fine every time... That is ODD and I think I am going to need Art for that one.

So thank you and this is all a very big help

lol, I dont know why this didnt come up.
I got mine working, was as simple as installing mach3

The problem here and Im guessing its hte problem elsewhere is that mach3 is not installed on peoples systems. I decided that it would be a good idea to install it and see if that was the problem and it turns out that it is!

I also threw my mach1lic into it before I tested it, so its possible that it just needed that file to run.

    Way to go Jon!

In addition to all of the hardware listed in a previous post, I also have Mach3 with license (of course) installed on my system. I still had problems when opening the J2.DXF file. Jon, or anyone else with Mach3 + license, any issues with the J2 file?

J2 is a NOGO... I followed it to the OCX that we are running to load the DXF's and it can't do it I don't think there is anything that I can do to fix it...

BTW do any of you know how to read a spline from a DXF file?

    Thanks

    LazyCam beta 1.0

Just been playing with LazyCam and it seems to hang every time you click on any of the cleanup Image buttons, files opened are known good DXF's and the same problem happens on two different machines with different Proc/mem etc, maybe a graphics problem ?

Hopefully the bugs will be fixed as it looks pretty impressive - nice and simple !

    Looking forward for future developments

give up on j2, in solidworks dwg/dxf editor it has options for binary or ascii and I think the j2 is binary and doesnt work.

its the same graphic as j I believe.

Will this program be able to read 3d lines? like if I draw lines that change in z value, will they be recognized and program from them?

    Does this help?
    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...&siteID=123112

    More specifically, : http://www.autodesk.com/techpubs/aut.../dxf/index.htm

Older versions of .dxf didn't support splines, but that shouldn't affect you, you just read what you want.

Someone sent me a spline converter, but its just a trial.

I just tried to generate some code from Lazy Cam and I got no Z numbers. I played with the check box with generate Z depth and still got nothing.

I just watched the demo of LazyCam and it looks awsome! I use SheetCam to load DXF files and to create the toolpath because I want the inside areas cut first. Looks like this will replace SheetCam now.

The cost will be about 150 for the pay version in the end (I think...) I am working on excellon PCB Drilling code now... I have the files outputting as GCode and It seems to be working very well at this time . As for the Gcode output, I have redone the posting Class and it should put out MUCH better Gcode now.
Next I am going to have to recode the drawing class like the post class (Nice to have it draw how it is going to cut ).

Thank you all again for your help!
