How do you get the spindle to turn on with a PCNC 1100 for "maual" milling?

I have a 5 yrd old 1100 pcnc that came with the original PC with the Tormach Mach 3 installed. Im trying to do a bit of face milling as a first project but the spindle wont turn on. I have the Should the spindle lockout on the cabinet be on 1 or 0? What do I need to do on the mach 3 screen to get the spindle to come online? My only experience so far with CNC machines is with one I made myself from a manual machine and turning the spindle on was a simple matter of turning a knob.

So how do I get this thing turning?

    Thanks in advance!

I have a PCNC 770, When I want to run the spindle in "manual" mode I push the rocker switch on the cabinet to manual and push the "start" rocker switch on the cabinet. You can download most of the PCNC 1100 documents from Tormach. Product Documents | Tormach LLC providers of personal small CNC machines, CNC tooling, and many more CNC items. 1100 - Mill

I have an 1100, same procedure as Kevin said: spindle manual, start. Don't forget to rotate the speed control.

On my 1100: First select spindle speed then enter the spindle speed using keyboard in the spindle display and push enter. Using the mouse then click on spindle speed button to start, click again to stop.

    Don,

I'll give that try when I get my machine back up and running (hopefully tomorrow). When I just want to face off a surface, I've found it easy just to MDI the spindle speed, feed rate, and DOC. That might work for him. BTW, I had an AVR in 2007. The donor was a pig. I was off work for seven weeks, didn't miss a day after that until 2011 when my prostate went south. Another eight weeks off, then back to the grind. Though I didn't have the five BPs, I can still appreciate what you've gone through. Anyway, just "keep on truckin", that seems to be the best medicine.

If your setting the speed in the MDI, why not use M3 / M5 to turn the spindle on / off. That's what I do when running an edge finder.

My bad, I should've included those as well. I do think MDI will better serve him then just trying to control things with the keyboard and/or the pendant which, if I understood him, was his intention.

    SwampDonkey,

Not sure where you are on the learning curve, so here it is from the beginning.

    Bootup procedure for Tormach 1100/770:
    - Turn on Mains line power switch (red flipper on side of mill)
    - Turn on computer power, wait for bootup.
    - Launch Mach 3, wait for it to complete.
    - Un-lock emergency stop button (twist to the right 1/2 turn)
    - Press large green power button on front of cabinet
    - Check spindle cabinet door is latched
    - Disengage spindle lockout (turn key on front of cabinet to '1')
    - Press "Reset" in Mach 3

    Mach-Controlled Spindle:
    - Press Spindle rocker switch on front of cabinet to "Auto"
    - Check the Hi/Lo belt setting matches the current belt placement on the machine
    - Type S1000 for 1000 RPM in the Mach command line (or whatever speed you want)
    - Press the "Spindle" button in Mach to start spindle

    Manual Spindle Control:
    - Press Spindle rocker switch on front of cabinet to "Manual"
    - Select speed using dial
    - Press "Start" rocker
