Trying an xbox controller on my Mach3 setup... Maybe.

I am interested in trying an xbox controller on my Mach3 setup. Not being game console savvy, I think I jumped the gun a bit. I ordered a cheap controller from ebay and the connector looks nothing like a usb connector…
I did a little checking online and it looks like I can clip the connector off the controller and graft on a usb cable (taken from a old mouse) and I should be in business.
Has anyone gone this rout? Or should I buy an adapter… Any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance.

That's an XBox connector, and I have no idea if swapping it for a USB connector will work.

Actually, looks like it might work.

Well for the $9 I have invested I think I’ll give it a try.
Let you know how it turns out.

Ok so I did the mod to convert the Xbox connector to a USB.

    Here’s what you need.

    A cheap xbox controller.
A USB cable with the end that plugs into your computer.
    Solder and Iron.
Heat shrink to fit your wires and cable (or electrical tape)

I had a unused USB cable that came with a printer. It will be my new connector for the game controller.
I Cut the end that went to the printer off

Then I cut the connector from the controller.

Remove the cable jackets (note the yellow wire is not used)

Solder the wires. matching the colors.

    Cover with the sleeving

Shrink it down and your done!

I plug it in to my PC and it detected it as a Generic USB Hub. Now I need to load the drivers.
I'll let you know how that goes.

Note: Do this at your own risk.
