PM20MV stripped intermediate gear.. How to fix? Convert to belt drive?

    Attachment 187536
Well I finally did it, I stripped the intermediate gear on PM20. I'm hoping to take this opportunity to convert it to a belt drive. The problem is I don't have a lathe. Does anyone know of any turn key belt conversions? Or, at least one that doesn't need a lathe. Also, I don't mind if I loose quill movement.
    Thanks!

I know a guy who made some extra replacement spur gears for his (motor and intermediate) I could see if he's willing to part with a set and contact you if you are interested.

    Hello Hoss.
That would be great. I emailed Precision Matthews about my broken part and haven't heard back. Another reason to buy a G0704, great part support.

Ok, I let him know you are interested and have him contact you here or by pm unless he's not interested and I'll pass on the bad news.

Sorry bud, he's only made a spare for himself and hasn't been able to make more.
I've had a couple others needing that gear contact me too because grizzly is backordered on them, they should really keep a
bunch of those in stock since they are a fusible part.

Good news. Machinetoolsonline.com has the part and mailing them to me tomorrow. Whew! For once I'm glad I have PM20 and not a G0704.
I would still like to do a belt drive conversion though. What I would like to do is strip my head down so that I don't have a quill, or gear change nob, make the head like a real cnc eg tormach.
So Hoss, does you belt conversion have an option to remove all that stuff? How much lathe work does it need get it done? Can I do it on my CNC instead. I'm pretty handy on it, I can thread mill and find centers pretty easily. My boss has a lathe and a good machinist, but I hate asking favors from him.

Yeah I stripped out all that stuff, still have to keep the main gear assembly to provide bearing support for the pulley.
The simplest one just needs a pair of off the shelf timing pulleys bored out a little but this is possible on the mill, it does away with the quill so the fine feed and handle can be removed too.
