Cant get stepper motors to move

Hi all. I have a DB25 breakout board with DQ542MA drivers and have been attempting most of the day to get the Nemo 23 motors to rotate. I have tried different ports and also am aware of the estop problems people have reported previously.

I do only have 3.85 volts output from the breakout board instead of the 5volts you would expect from my desktop. And the same voltage is across pins 2,3,4,5,6,7 when measured to earth. When Mach 3 is running, I get no voltage on the DIR or PULs sections of the drivers. So I guess the PULS- and DIR- is looking for an earth is this correct?

The motors lockup once powered. The notes in the manual say to adjust the PMW and signal level.

I have no idea on how to troubleshoot the system. Can anyone shed some light please? Resources?

    Ok sorted much better now.

Well as it turns out the DB25 board does actually require an external 5v power supply. Wantai do not supply any information which includes this so I hope this post will be of some use to someone. My system is now working and I look forward to bashing some poor unsuspecting router bit into some timber!
