    Question Strange Chinese Material Flaw

I have never seen anything like this before and everyone I show it too is pretty perplexed on how it even happened in the first place. I thought I would share it and see what some of you think.

    Enjoy.

Looks like a major flaw in the casting process before machining. What material, and what is the part for?

it's 6061 aluminum bar 1.250 Square. This was in the middle of a 144" length. There were 2 parts that were like this that we found, the other not as bad, at least one slipped through. You can't tell from the picture really, but the flaw is cone shaped. The hole on one end measures .340 while on the other end it measures about .825. The part is 7.775 long. It is called a Yoke, not sure of the purpose.

I could tell from the pic that the void was cone shaped, what's the surface like inside the missing chunks?

It's kind of hard to describe. I will take a close up of it tomorrow.

Usually we get our Aluminum from Kaiser but this size was on back order. So our supplier specifically asked if we could accept Chinese Import. I looked this morning and I don't have any rems with the name on it. That is all I have to go by. Here is a close up of the hole.
